The Translator Training Centers Project
BPS Global has realized two outstanding facts. First, there is very little translator training going on in the Christian colleges of the United States. Second, there are many nationals outside the United States who would make excellent translators if they only had training. However, it is a serious difficulty for them to get that training. Lack of money, lack of ability to travel and lack of time all interfere.
For these reasons and others, BPS Global is developing a thorough translator training program for Nationals around the world who can study in English. We hope that the program will eventually be available in other languages. The translator training will include studies on the Essential Foundations of Bible translating such as the correct beliefs about the Bible, choosing the right texts on which to base a translation and translation methods. It will also teach about semantics, literary devices, figures of speech, how to plan and execute a project, and methods of accuracy checking.
We have already come a long way toward making this a reality. We have created the outline and submitted it to a number of scholars and experienced translators for review. The outline itself is over 50 pages.
This program will be a part of our plan to establish translation training centers around the globe.
